Manufacturer specifications are for standard configurations and may vary with seating, accessories and production tolerances. Maximum speed is an upper limit, not a guarantee under all operating conditions.
Measure the actual clear opening with the door fully open, not just the nominal door size. The chair's overall width should be comfortably smaller than that opening, allowing extra room for safe maneuvering. Also consider the footplate, armrests, seating configuration and the space needed to turn before and after passing through a doorway.
The position of a power chair's drive wheels affects how it turns, handles obstacles and moves through your home. Here's what to know before choosing.
Drive wheels positioned near the center of the chair
Mid-wheel-drive power chairs can turn around a point near the center of the chair, making them especially useful for navigating confined indoor spaces.
Simplified top-down illustration
Drive wheels positioned toward the front of the chair
Front-wheel-drive power chairs use larger powered wheels toward the front, allowing the chair to pull itself forward over certain obstacles while the rear of the chair follows through a turn.
Simplified top-down illustration
For frequent indoor use and tight turns, mid-wheel drive is often a strong choice. Front-wheel drive may appeal to customers who prefer its handling and obstacle approach. Neither is automatically better: overall chair dimensions, suspension, seating and your typical environment matter just as much.

Expert Buying Guidance
Practical answers to help you choose confidently—from maneuvering around your home to lifting a chair into your vehicle.
Fit, performance & everyday comfort
Start with the chair's overall width and turning radius, then measure your narrowest doorway and the spaces where you need to turn. The Jazzy Select and Jazzy EVO 613 are worth comparing for indoor maneuverability. Allow clearance for your hands, footplate and furniture—not just the chair's published width.
Mid-wheel-drive chairs generally turn around a central drive-wheel position, which can be useful in tighter rooms. Front-wheel-drive chairs have a different turning feel and obstacle approach. Neither is automatically better: compare turning radius, stability, suspension, terrain and how the chair will be used.
Choose based on your daily routine. Full-size Jazzy models often offer more substantial seating, suspension and everyday performance. Folding models emphasize transport and storage. If the chair will be used for many hours every day, prioritize comfort and support as well as portability.
A heavy-duty model may be appropriate if you need greater weight capacity or a roomier seating configuration. Compare the Jazzy Elite HD or Carbon HD with your needs, but don't shop by capacity alone: seat width, seat depth, doorway clearance and comfort matter too.
The Jazzy Air 2 features powered seat elevation, helping users reach certain surfaces and interact closer to eye level. Elevation is a specialized feature, not a substitute for checking seat fit, driving restrictions while elevated, or the chair's overall dimensions.
Weights, batteries & practical details
No. The standard Go Chair is designed to disassemble into separate pieces for transport, rather than folding as one unit. Compare its heaviest disassembled piece with the chair weight without battery shown for folding models. Those are different measurements and should not be treated as equivalent.
It is the chair's published weight excluding its battery. You may need to remove the battery to achieve that lifting weight. Before purchasing, confirm the actual lifting procedure and whether you can safely lift, load and secure the chair. A lighter specification does not automatically mean a chair will be easy for every person to handle.
Possibly, but check folded or disassembled dimensions, your trunk opening and cargo area—not just the chair's weight. Also consider who will lift it and whether a ramp or vehicle lift would make transport safer. Full-size power chairs often need dedicated vehicle-access equipment.
Air travel may be possible, but approval is not automatic. Battery chemistry, watt-hour rating, battery removal requirements and airline handling policies can differ. Contact your airline before booking or flying, and provide the exact chair model and battery specifications.
Compare seat width, depth and height with the user's measurements and transfer needs. A seat should support comfortable positioning without being overly tight or excessively wide. If pressure management, posture or complex seating needs are involved, consult a qualified seating professional.
